Terminal I - Punjab Stadium

Allama Iqbal Tomb

  • Sir Muhammad Iqbal (November 9, 1877 – April 21, 1938), widely known as Allama Iqbal was a poet, philosopher, and politician, as well as an academic, barrister and scholar. He is called the "Spiritual father of Pakistan". He is considered one of the most important figures in Urdu literature with literary work in both the Urdu and Persian languages. After completing his doctorate in Philosophy from Munich he returned to London to qualify for the bar. Iqbal returned to India in 1908. The poet had won all these academic laurels by the time he was 32 or 33.

    His notable work includes Asrar-e-Khudi, Rumuz-e-Bekhudi, Payam-e-Mashriq, Zabur-e-Ajam, Javed Nama and Bang-e-Dara. Iqbal is also the writer of Tarana-e-Hind (The Indian anthem). In his presidential address at Allahabad, Iqbal for the first time introduced the idea of Pakistan.

    He is buried near Badshahi Mosque in a famous park called Hazuri Bagh between Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort. Pakistan rangers perform duty as guard at the tomb. The tomb is a mixture of Afghani and Moorish culture. There are two entrance gates eastern gate and southern gate. The grave is made of beautiful white marble the stone was collected as a gift from Afghanistan and exterior of the tomb is made of stone collected from Indian states Rajputana and Jaipur. In short it is a beautiful place to see.
